JOB DESCRIPTION 

The primary responsibility of the Systems Engineer to develop and support the technology and product development efforts of Inogen.  The Systems Engineer will evaluate the feasibility and opportunity of new products or improvements to existing product lines. The Systems Engineer is also responsible for developing, operating, and maintaining Inogen's R&D laboratory space, including operating laboratory equipment, researching new equipment as needed. The Systems Engineer is also responsible for evaluating new technologies and working with development partners to integrate new technologies into Inogen Products or assisting partners to integrate Inogen's technologies into their products. The Systems Engineer should additionally contribute to Inogen's Intellectual Property Portfolio.

Key Competencies:

  • Analytically design and evaluate new product concepts and technology proof of concepts
  • Research and maintain an understanding of current technology trends as they may apply to Inogen product opportunities
  • Support the design and manufacture of Inogen products
  • Work with component suppliers and other members of the R&D team to create highly reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective products.
  • Actively pursue the generation and protection of intellectual property to achieve Inogen's corporate goals.
  • Develop and refine Inogen's R&D capabilities to include enable rapid and efficient development and evaluation of concepts and product opportunities.
  • The Systems Engineer will keep detailed records of test set-ups and test records for the design history files and projects for reference by other engineers for equipment usage.
  • Prepare and present reports and demonstrations of project work

Do you possess these abilities?

  • Expertise in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and chemical systems
  • Self-motivating and capable of self-direction required
  • Experience with National Instruments Lab View desirable.
  • Experience with Matlab strongly desired
  • Experience with 3D modeling strongly desired
  • Knowledge and ability to write and debug embedded software desirable
  • Experience with fabrication equipment desired.
  • Highly motivated and able to act as a key part of the R&D team.
  • Good attention to detail and accurate and complete documentation required
  • Desire and ability to perform hands-on prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting required
  • Proven ability to evaluate concepts and opportunities from idea through prototype and feasibility analysis
  • Ability to create and run analytical simulations and models of complex processes and systems
  • Able to execute plans and projects with support and guidance from senior team members
  • Able to plan and work projects from concept to completion with minimal oversight or assistance

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field required
  • Advanced degree in Engineering or related field strongly preferred
  • Minimum 6 years' experience in research laboratory environment
  • Medical device experience preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Office, lab, and manufacturing floor environment. Occasional travel to Inogen Manufacturing and R&D sites
