Job Summary:

The Director of Sales Operations (DSO) is responsible for overseeing all sales operations for the Direct to Patient (DTP) Sales department, including providing support where needed to ensure successful business operations. The position is responsible for conducting the business planning process, measuring performance by keeping accurate sales operations records, improving existing sales operations processes, creating budgets and sales forecasts, and defining resources to reach all sales operations goals.

The DSO monitors operational performance and leads business meetings to recommend changes to operations.  The DSO is involved in strategic sales planning, forecasting at regular intervals, analyzing all sales operations, and modifying them to make them more efficient without sacrificing effectiveness and quality. The DSO works directly with the Director of Sales with a focus to increase sales productivity by ensuring tools and processes are in place and ensuring compliance requirements are effectively managed.

Responsibilities (Specific tasks, duties, essential functions of the job)

  • Responsible for the complex reporting and analysis involved in sales forecasting and planning.  Works with VP, Patient Sales on guidance to reach monthly, quarterly and yearly revenue and expense goals
  • Develops key performance metrics to measure the activities that have the most significant impact on sales productivity, pulls the necessary reports to track KPIs over time and compiles dashboards that Sales Leaders can use to monitor performance and progress of their teams.  Compile reports on an ad hoc basis to assist in evaluation of process improvements.  Manage the sales analyst function and personnel.
  • Provides recommendations to the VP, Patient Sales to optimize sales process, recognize trends in data and refine operation models.
  • Works with Human Resources on the design of sales commission and incentive plans.
  • Works with Finance on administration of sales compensation and incentive plans.
  • Works with IT to ensure that technology (CRM, telephony) infrastructure is aligned to optimize sales performance across the organization (lead distribution, call routing, compliance monitoring, etc.)
  • Manage the sales training function and personnel to ensure that the organization has the training, tools and enablers to effectively drive performance to achieve targets established.
  • Manage the quality assurance function and personnel to ensure that compliance is maintained in sales conversations.  Work with sales leaders and trainers to create a culture of continuous improvement through coaching by using information provided by quality assurance.
  • Ensure that all Work Instructions that are specific to DTP are updated and deployed in a timely manner.  The  Inogen Document Revision Control process should be used when required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Analytical Skills Ability to access and assess data from a variety of sources and create actionable deliverables and presentations
  • Technical Skills Understands the capabilities and limitations of Salesforce.com, along with supporting technology and is able to direct an inside sales organization on how to effectively use them to optimize sales performance
  • Communication skills Excellent communicator able to work with executives and sales leadership on communicating issues and action plans around process improvement to drive operational sales performance.
  • Business Acumen Able to solve complex problems and can work across an organization (marketing, finance, customer service, logistics) to marshal resources that will positively impact the productivity results of a sales organization
  • People management Manage a team of exempt and non-exempt professionals aligned to supporting the operational requirements of DTP (Training, Quality Assurance and Analytics)

Working Conditions

  • Teams will be managed from an office location
  • Willingness to travel (up to 25%)
  • Position could be located in Richardson, TX, Goleta, CA or Cleveland, OH

Qualifications (Experience and Education)

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years in a sales leadership position with Sales Operations as a key part of job responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience improving sales productivity and results is critical.
  • Systems proficiency with Salesforce.com and business analytic tools
  • Direct to Consumer and DME Sales and/or sales management experience preferred
